One of the questions we get asked most at New Farm Holidays is what there is to do nearby. It’s a fair question, we’re in rural Lincolnshire, not exactly round the corner from a theme park, but honestly, it’s one of the reasons families keep coming back.

You don’t have to go far. And when you do, it’s worth it.

Here’s our honest guide to the best things to do near Boston, Lincolnshire with kids, put together by people who actually live here.

Start on the site; you might not need to go anywhere

Before we get into the day trips, it’s worth saying that a decent chunk of a family stay at New Farm Holidays doesn’t involve leaving at all.

There’s Ostler’s Orchestra in the trees — our woodland music garden, tucked into Ostler’s Wood, with outdoor instruments free for all guests to play throughout their stay. Kids find it within about ten minutes of arriving, and then nobody can get them away from it.

There’s the wildlife pond, the woodland walks, campfires in the evenings, and thirty acres of Lincolnshire countryside to disappear into. Some families find they’ve filled two or three days without going anywhere. That’s not a complaint.

But when you’re ready to explore… here’s where we’d send you.

Best things to do near Boston, Lincolnshire

Ark Wildlife & Dinosaur Park

This one’s a proper day out. Ark Wildlife Park is home to Jurassic Ark – Lincolnshire’s biggest animatronic prehistoric dinosaur attraction and also offers animal encounters and experiences for all ages. It works for little ones and older kids equally, which is harder to pull off than it sounds. About twenty minutes from the site. Find out more

Tattershall Farm Park & Tattershall Castle

Two for one here, both in Tattershall which is roughly half an hour’s drive. Tattershall Farm Park offers a range of activities including animal encounters and outdoor play, great for younger children especially. And if you want to add some history to the afternoon, Tattershall Castle is a National Trust medieval gem with picturesque views and a good family trail. Pack a picnic and make a day of it – take a look here

Gibraltar Point National Nature Reserve

One for families who like a proper walk with something to look at the other end. Gibraltar Point is a stretch of coastline south of Skegness managed as a nature reserve — dunes, saltmarsh, bird hides, and a beach that feels genuinely wild. No amusement arcades, no chips (bring your own). About 45 minutes from New Farm but worth every minute of it.

Skegness Natureland Seal Sanctuary

Skegness Natureland is renowned for its rescue and rehabilitation of seal pups along the Lincolnshire coast, and offers the chance to see seals, penguins, meerkats, and a butterfly house — with feeding demonstrations and educational talks. It’s busy in the school holidays but the kids genuinely love it. Pair it with Gibraltar Point for a full coastal day. (Visit their site here)

Boston Itself

It’s easy to overlook the town when you’re on a countryside break, but Boston is worth a few hours. St Botolph’s Church, known as The Stump dominates the skyline from almost everywhere in the area and is genuinely impressive up close. The Guildhall Museum is small but good, the Pilgrim Fathers connection alone makes it interesting for older kids. Boston History Tours run guided walks every Wednesday and Sunday from April through September if you fancy something more structured.

And if it’s a rainy day, Horncastle is worth the drive – it’s the antiques capital of Lincolnshire and the kind of place the kids roll their eyes at until they find something brilliant in a box on the floor.

Freiston Shore

An RSPB reserve about ten minutes from the site, lagoons, wading birds and big Lincolnshire skies. It’s quiet, it’s free, and it’s the kind of place that reminds you why you came to the countryside in the first place. Not for every family, but for those who like it, it’s a favourite.

Where to stay

New Farm Holidays is based in Stickney, near Boston, in rural Lincolnshire. We’re open from April to the end of October and have glamping pods from £55/nightwoodland camping pitchesfield pitches, and a Caravan & Motorhome Club CL at our second site in Wrangle.

We’re not a big holiday park. We’re a working organic farm with thirty acres of countryside, a wildlife pond, and a woodland music garden in the trees. It’s the kind of place where the kids sleep well and the adults actually relax.
